We’re hugely looking forward to our Inside Comedy: Nina Forever day at BFI Southbank next Saturday 18th May. It’s a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes of the hotly anticipated first feature by BAFTA nominees and Screen Stars of Tomorrow the Blaine brothers, during the post-production of the film.

The cast and crew will be discussing their performances, there will also be sessions with the production designer and the DOP, and of course the writers/directors Chris and Ben Blaine, who will be hosting a unique live editing session looking at an unfinished scene, and sharing unseen footage.

We’ll be talking to award-winning film makers Destiny Ekaragha (director, Gone Too Far) and producer Annalise Davis (producer, Up There) about the challenge of making your first feature, and we’re thrilled to welcome legendary British film-maker and author Chris Petit, director of Radio On and other classics, in conversation with the Blaine brothers, who have been hugely influenced by his work.

It’s a perfect day for film fans, film-makers, actors and industry insiders, and there will be lots of opportunities to meet the cast, crew and other film-makers over coffee, lunch and evening drinks.

Silent comedy has delighted generations of film-goers. At LOCO’s School of Slapstick you can create, shoot and star in your own silent comedy film, working with professional theatre tutors, cameraman and editor. Each School begins with a screening of classic silent comedy shorts, after which you’ll be taught silent comedy acting skills. You’ll be helped to devise your own scenarios, and filmed. We supply the props and costumes, you supply the comic genius. The session ends with a screening of your film, an edited DVD is included and sent to you the next day.

We had a fantastic range of entries this year, but Wizard’s Way stood out as a film with a truly original comic spirit, made with much love and no compromise. Chris, Joe and Socrates are a very talented collective, and we’re delighted to bring their work to a wider audience.

“We’re thrilled and honoured to win this year’s LOCO Discovery Award. Wizard’s Way was made with extremely limited resources. We bought a £300 camcorder on Gumtree and made our own boom pole from an Argos lamp. As a consequence, we knew we had to focus much harder on character, story and performance. We hope Wizard’s Way demonstrates that if you have a good idea, some likeable characters and a lot of spare time at the weekends, you can make a feature film without any external support or funding.”
